‘Deep Throat’ Director Dead
by moodmonsterBefore filmmaker Gerard Damiano released Deep Throat, the mere though of an extreme act of fellatio seemed unimaginable. Today, people make a living at it. Back then, a woman who was actually able to perform a ‘deep throat’ was commonly referred to as ‘hooa.’ Today, we call her Heather Brooke.
What’s lesser know are Damiano’s alternate titles for the movie, which by the way was financed by the Mafia. It’s rumored that some considerations included: Bottomless Esophagus, Unhinged Jaw, The Epiglottis Giggle, Gag Reflex and Open Up And Say Marcus Welby.
Luckily for The Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein none stuck. I mean can you imagine an FBI informant nicknamed ‘Gag Reflex’ helping bring down Nixon?
Deep Throat premiered at the World Theater in New York City on June 5, 1972.
Damiano died Tuesday at a Ft. Myers hospital after having suffered a stroke.
He was 80.
